Last year during these days in Spring 2020 - and the first lockdown - I was creating the first subjects of what it would later become my last temporary art project: “Wash your hands and keep creative”
One year later, I am sharing with you the first ever permanent sink, designed and thought together with Gaia Venuti and her interior design company #gaiahomeproject based in Milan.
When we spoke about the idea, she told me her guest sink had some cracks and we decided to transform this natural pattern into the full concept. Plus the existing purple bathroom wall and the bauhaus style of her house. We dreamed about a contemporary abstract shape, to enhance the bright and vibrant colour and mood.
I must be honest, this was an extremely difficult artwork, I had no experience with resin, especially when the sink has an ergonomic shape and it’s impossible to control the chemical reaction of materials - or what will happen after drying time.
I had to scrape, erase and change the design several times, because the resin rejected some gold paint, made bubbles and I only had few hours in between sessions before the resin became unusable.
I was crazy enough to try the gold foil on ceramic - even without knowing if I was making a huge mistake or (maybe) getting the best intuition.
At one point Gaia said: “I completely trust you”, so I just did it… I dared and we loved the final result.
Thanks for keep following my adventures. There will be more creative projects related to interior design soon.
Love, Marta
